Paramount acquires rights to 2 bestsellers

HOLLYWOOD, May 2 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Paramount Pictures said it has purchased the screen rights to two current New York Times non-fiction bestsellers.

The studio said it has secured the rights to "Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction" by David Sheff, as well as "Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines" by Nic Sheff.

The books are intended for development and feature film production by Plan B Entertainment, actor/producer Brad Pitt's production company.

Plan B Entertainment has an overall deal with Paramount and has previously produced such films as "The Departed," "Troy," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "A Mighty Heart" and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."
