NEW YORK, April 30 (UPI) -- The parents of movie star Uma Thurman testified in State Supreme Court in New York that Thurman's alleged stalker repeatedly contacted their family.

Robert Thurman told the jury hearing Jack Jordan's stalking case that Jordan initially contacted him in 2004 by e-mail through his office at Columbia University, where the elder Thurman is a professor, The New York Times reported.

Although his first messages seemed innocent enough, Robert Thurman recalled how Jordan later revealed he was in love with Thurman's daughter.

Robert Thurman and his ex-model wife, Birgitte, said Jordan contacted their family numerous times over the course of a year.

"He told me in so many words that he believed that he and my daughter had a preordained life, as it were, that they were meant to be together," Birgitte Thurman said Jordan told her in a phone call to the family's house.

He also allegedly appeared at the actress's trailer on the set of a movie she was filming in Manhattan, the Times noted.

Jordan was arrested and charged with stalking and aggravated harassment.

But his lawyer, George Vomvolakis, said he didn't intend to harm or threaten anyone.

"He's a romantic," the Times quoted Vomvolakis as saying Tuesday. "He loves her. He wanted her to marry him."
