CLEVELAND, April 29 (UPI) -- Jack Hanrahan, who won accolades as a Hollywood writer only to end up living in a homeless shelter, died in a Cleveland nursing home Tuesday at age 75.
Hanrahan was suffering from heart problems and other ailments when he died in the care facility, the Plain Dealer reported.
Hanrahan, a cartoonist and actor who grew up in Cleveland, won an Emmy for "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," a comedy-variety vehicle for Dan Rowan and Dick Martin. He also wrote for some of the most popular shows of the 1960s and 1970s, including "Get Smart," "The Waltons," "Police Woman" and "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour."
The intervening years weren't kind, the newspaper said. In December 2006, Hanrahan returned to Cleveland from California by bus, penniless, unkempt and smoking self-rolled cigarettes. He lived for a time in a homeless shelter.
