LONDON, April 28 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince Harry will receive a campaign medal in recognition of his military service in Afghanistan, Buckingham Palace announced.
Harry, 23, will receive the medal May 5 at a ceremony in Windsor, where 160 Household Cavalry troops will be praised for their work against the Taliban, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.
The prince will be awarded the Afghanistan Medal, which is given to British soldiers who participated in Britain's Operation Herrick in Afghanistan, the report said.
The last royal family member to actively serve in the military was Harry's uncle, the duke of York in 1982.
Harry traveled to southern Afghanistan's Helmand Province in a covert mission in December to serve as a forward air controller, the Telegraph said. His tour was supposed to last four months, but ended six weeks early when a media blackout crumbled in late February.
