LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- Nicollette Sheridan is confident her character on the hit U.S. TV series "Desperate Housewives" will be back for another season, the actress says.

The actress, who plays vixen Edie Britt on the ABC dramedy, said despite her character's visible personality flaws, she has earned a large fan following, which should keep her on the series, TV Guide said Sunday.

"It seems Edie has quite a healthy support group out there, which I'm extremely grateful for," Sheridan said. "When her existence is in jeopardy, the audience really rallies and champions her return."

"I've tried to bring a sympathetic side to her. She's an antiheroine, yet she's lovable."

Yet "Desperate" creator Marc Cherry has hinted Britt will be at the center of a major betrayal on the May 11 episode.

"(Edie) crosses a huge moral boundary that she has never crossed before," Cherry said.

But Sheridan told TV Guide her character's actions in the climactic episode are nothing new for "Housewives."

"It's not that despicable," the actress said. "The women are all quite evil at the end of that episode. Those nasty wenches! I mean, come on, they're the ones that are killing people, having affairs!"
