NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- NBC said in New York that Philip Winchester has signed to star in TV pilot "Crusoe," while ABC said Alicia Silverstone will star in "Bad Mother's Handbook."

"Crusoe," based on Daniel Defoe's classic novel "Robinson Crusoe," features the title character, portrayed by Winslow, leaving his wife, played by Anna Walton, in search of adventure, only to spend 28 years stranded on a tropical island, The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday.

Meanwhile, rival network ABC's "Handbook" stars Silverstone as a 32-year-old woman who struggles to take care of her teenage daughter, played by former "Arrested Development" star Alia Shawkat, and her 48-year-old mother.
