Simpsons return to Venezuelan TV

"THE SIMPSONS MOVIE" PREMIERE IN LOS ANGELES

CARACAS, Venezuela, April 19 (UPI) -- Venezuela returned American cartoon favorite "The Simpsons" to the airwaves after removing the show due to content deemed inappropriate, federal officials said.

The program, which had aired in the morning, will be broadcast only at night, Televen TV, which carries the program, said Friday.

TV regulators in Venezuela said the program's at-times off-color humor was a bad influence on young day-time viewers.

Other South American countries have also complained about the content of the popular U.S. cartoon in recent years.

In 2002, Brazil threatened to sue Fox over an episode in which the cartoon family members were depicted traveling to Rio de Janeiro, where they are robbed, kidnapped and attacked by wild animals.

More recently, Argentine officials took offense at an episode in which characters extolled the virtues of one of the country's former military dictators.
