WASHINGTON, April 12 (UPI) -- Nearly 11,000 people visited the newest incarnation of the Newseum on the first day the doors of the newly relocated news museum were open.
The interactive news museum had 10,854 visitors Friday when it held its grand re-opening at a brand new site and with an innovative new look, The Washington Post reported Saturday.
The news and journalism museum was initially built in 1997 in Rosslyn, Va., before relocating to Arlington, Va., and now to Washington.
Newseum Chief Executive Officer Charles L. Overby said moving the museum to Pennsylvania Avenue in the nation's capital was the right move.
"Just the idea of being able to locate this museum right on Pennsylvania Avenue … it was location, location, location," Overby said.
Overby said the new location came with an additional benefit.
"Our main mission is to teach people about the First Amendment. To do that you fish where the fish are," he told the Post.
