LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. home video company Blockbuster reportedly is working on a set-top device that would allow it to stream movies directly to people's television sets.
The Hollywood Reporter said the product would be related to Movielink, the online film service Blockbuster bought last year, which allows consumers to watch thousands of films licensed from major Hollywood studios on their computers.
The trade paper said Blockbuster declined to comment on the story, but a representative did acknowledge: "We're talking to numerous companies and vendors about products, services, alliances and initiatives that can help us achieve our mission to transform Blockbuster into a company that provides access to media content across multiple channels -- from our stores, by mail, through kiosks, through downloading, through portable content-enabled devices -- so it's not surprising that there are rumors out there."
