LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- Actress Mischa Barton was sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation after she pleaded no contest to drunken driving in Los Angeles.

She was also ordered to complete a three-month alcohol-education class and pay a fine of about $2,000, People.com said.

Barton, 22, is best known for her work on the TV series "The O.C." She was arrested Dec. 27.

As part of the plea deal her lawyer worked out with prosecutors, Barton will not have to spend any time in jail. She wasn't in court Thursday when her lawyer entered the plea, People.com said.

A source told the magazine a marijuana possession charge against Barton was also dropped because of the small amount found.

"The (prosecutors) were very fair in handling this case," Anthony V. Salerno reportedly said outside the courtroom in Beverly Hills. "Mischa's glad the case has been resolved."
