BELLAIRE, Texas, March 23 (UPI) -- Tejano music star Emilio Navaira was critically injured Sunday when the tour bus he was driving crashed in Texas, police said.

The collision occurred on the West 610 Loop in Bellaire shortly before 5 a.m., the Houston Chronicle reported. The Grammy Award-winning singer and six passengers were taken to area hospitals, the newspaper said. The extent of the passengers' injuries wasn't known.

Navaira and his group performed at a Houston nightclub Saturday night, the Chronicle said.

The San Antonio native known to his fans as Emilio won a 2003 Grammy for his album "Acuerdate." He has won numerous Tejano Music Awards.

Navaira reportedly had been arrested on a drunken driving charge in San Antonio in 2005 after his vehicle rolled over while making a turn.
