Whedon downplays talk of 'Buffy' project

LOS ANGELES, March 22 (UPI) -- U.S. TV producer Joss Whedon says the chances of another "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" project are very slim.

Appearing at a "Buffy" fan gathering at Los Angeles' Paley Center Thursday, Whedon said beyond the current "Buffy" comics he is helping create, he sees little hope that a new project based on the popular TV series would come about, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

"So many stars would have to align, but I think it'd be really cool," said Whedon, who admitted to harboring thoughts of taking the concept to Broadway. "Obviously from the comics, I just can't let go.

"Hypothetically, if the stars can align, it would be lovely to make a comic tie-in, but if I had to lose the comic mythology because we were doing a project with these actual people, I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over it."

"Buffy" ran on The WB and UPN for seven seasons before being canceled five years ago. The series starred actress Sarah Michelle Gellar as a teenage vampire hunter.
