Filmmaker to shoot movie in one take

CHICAGO, March 20 (UPI) -- A 20-year-old first-time film director from Los Angeles plans to shoot a big-screen thriller in one take on the streets of Chicago.

Plans are under way to shut down several areas of the city at the end of the month so actor, writer and director Aram Rappaport can film "Helix," a graphic crime drama to be shot in a single take, representatives for the movie said.

The 100-minute-long film from independent production company Windward Entertainment is being produced by James Toland and stars "Spy Kids" actress Alexa Vega.

"Making a film like 'Helix' requires a great deal of planning and flexibility. We're extremely pleased to have city officials and the Chicago Film Office working diligently to help us keep the camera rolling," Toland said in a statement.

The movie, which was inspired by a real kidnapping incident, will be shot in its entirety once a day for five successive days.

"I wrote the story of 'Helix' with the intention of depicting its truth as it physically happened, which is how violent crimes like abductions unfold," Rappaport said. "I cannot conceive of making the picture any other way. To edit it would be an injustice."
