LOS ANGELES, March 14 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Christian Slater may be getting his own NBC prime time drama, marking his debut as a series star.

The Hollywood Reporter cites sources who said the network is close to ordering a season of the untitled drama from writer-producer Jason Smilovic, who previously worked on "Bionic Woman," "Kidnapped" and "Karen Sisco."

The trade paper said the Smilovic-Slater project has been described as "The Bourne Identity" meets "Jekyll & Hyde" and is about a suburban family man who learns his alter ego is a spy.

Slater, who is best known for his roles in "Heathers," "Pump Up the Volume," "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "Broken Arrow," "Untamed Heart" and "Bed of Roses," has guest starred on the TV shows "The West Wing" and "Alias."

The Hollywood Reporter said NBC declined to comment for the story.
