NEW YORK, March 5 (UPI) -- "Dexter," a U.S. cable television drama about a serial killer, has inspired a new videogame, Marc Ecko Entertainment announced Wednesday.

The company said it has entered into a production agreement with Showtime Networks to design a videogame based on the Showtime series, noting it will develop the property for interactive media in close collaboration with Showtime Networks to guarantee the game's faithfulness to the show, which is about Dexter, a forensic blood spatter expert for the Miami Dade Police Department who also happens to be a serial killer who hunts down people who have escaped justice.

"'Dexter' is the extremely rare TV show with enough layers of action and tension to translate perfectly into a compelling videogame," Marc Fernandez, vice president of Marc Ecko Entertainment, said in a statement. "Our game designers, writers, and artists are going to give Dexter's morally complex world the kind of interactivity that gamers will love."

"'Dexter' is one of the most popular shows on Showtime with a particular strong fan base among gamers. It's a very logical jump to create a game," Showtime's Len Fogge added.
