
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- "Juno" scribe Diablo Cody won the Oscar for best original screenplay at the 80th Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday night.
The film was also a contender for the best picture prize, which went to "No Country for Old Men."
"What is happening?" a surprised Cody said as she collected her award for the popular teen pregnancy comedy. "This is for the writers. ... I especially want to thank all my fellow nominees because I worship you guys and I'm learning from you every day."
Also nominated for their original screenplays were Nancy Oliver, Tony Gilroy, Brad Bird and Tamara Jenkins.
Bird's "Ratatouille" won the Oscar for best animated feature, while "Taxi to the Dark Side" got the award for best documentary and "The Counterfeiters" snagged the prize for best foreign language film.
"The Golden Compass" earned the honor for visual effects; "Sweeney Todd" won art direction; "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" won for costumes and "Atonement" won the Oscar for original musical score.
"The Bourne Ultimatum" earned Oscars for film editing, sound editing and sound mixing.
"Falling Slowly" from "Once" won for best original song.
