Cotillard wins best actress Oscar

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Marion Cotillard won the Oscar best actress in Los Angeles Sunday for her portrayal of iconic French singer Edith Piaf in "La Vie En Rose."

Cotillard beat out Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Laura Linney and Ellen Page for the honor.

"Thank you so much to (producer) Picturehouse for your passion. Members of the (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), thank you so, so much," the actress said as she collected her prize. "Thank you, life. Thank you, love. It is true. There are some angels in this city. Thank you so, so much."

"La Vie En Rose" also earned an Oscar for makeup Sunday.
