Timberlake to portray ball player in film

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Justin Timberlake is set to play a fictional minor league baseball player for the Corpus Christi Hooks in the new film "The Open Road."

Timberlake attempted to meet with Hooks players in Texas to prepare for his role in the upcoming comedy/drama. However, time did not permit, Hooks team president J.J. Gottsch told the Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times.

"Justin wants to portray what it's like playing for the Hooks, playing for an Astros minor league team and playing at Whataburger Field," Gottsch told the newspaper.

Although the film began shooting this week in Hammond, La., it should still have a touch of Corpus Christi authenticity, thanks to Hooks officials who sent uniforms, hats, logo chairs and other items to the set, the Caller-Times reported.

"We essentially shipped our clubhouse to them," Gottsch said.
