Eurovision singer out of Swedish contest

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Carola Haggkvist, a three-time Swedish representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, has missed the final round of the country's Melodifestivalen competition.

Haggkvist performed a duet with fellow song contest veteran Andreas Johnson during the annual Melodifestivalen contest this weekend. But it wasn't good enough to advance to the finals, The Local said Sunday.

After learning she would only be eligible to take part in the contest's "second chance" heat next month, Haggkvist said she and Johnson never thought they were guaranteed a finals spot.

"We hadn't taken anything for granted. Even if you did," the singer said.

Instead, the finals will include singer Sanna Nielsen, who has the most Melodifestivalen performances this century, and twin brothers Henrik and Magnus Rongedal.

The Local said Nielsen's ballad "Empty Room" and the Rongedal twins' disco song "Just a Minute" helped reach the finals and a shot at the Melodifestivalen crown.
