LONDON, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- A fan seeking an autograph from Paul McCartney prior to his divorce hearing Friday says his request was rejected by the British musician.

The music fan, identified only as Joe, said McCartney's ex-wife, Heather Mills, later provided an autograph later and also took time to comment on McCartney's unwillingness to offer up his signature, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"I told her Paul had refused to sign and she said 'That's a pity, you are the sort of person who has made him what he is today,'" Joe told the British newspaper.

"Heather was really nice about it."

The impromptu autograph session came as the couple's divorce battle was expected to be concluded in London's High Court. However, a court spokesman said following Friday's hearing that the case would continue into next week.

The reported issues holding up a settlement include McCartney's attempt to have Mills sign a confidentiality clause and how much of a financial settlement Mills will receive.
