While the couple are scheduled to appear before a London High Court next week for their divorce hearing, sources close to Mills say she limited her financial demands by nearly $78 million in a recent phone call, the Daily Mirror said Saturday.
"Heather has never wanted the divorce to end up being fought in court or for everything to become so bitter," one unidentified source said.
"She hoped a relatively minimal payout would endear her to the public and really prove she's no gold digger."
Mills also reportedly said in the phone call that she would not accuse McCartney of attacking her if he agreed to the new divorce settlement.
Yet one friend of the former Beatle said McCartney is determined to see his day in court.
"Paul wants to clear his name and make sure the divorce is finalized formally and correctly," the anonymous McCartney friend said.
