Ledger's death ruled accidental

NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Heath Ledger's death has been ruled an accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications, the New York City Medical Examiner's office said.

The cause of the Australian actor's Jan. 22 death in Manhattan was announced Wednesday.

An initial autopsy conducted shortly after Ledger died proved inconclusive and the medical examiner waited for the results of toxicology tests before determining the cause of death.

A statement released by the office said Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine.

"We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications," the statement said.


Williams in Australia for Ledger's funeral

PERTH, Australia, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Michelle Williams and her toddler daughter Matilda have arrived in Perth, Australia, for film star Heath Ledger's funeral.

Ledger, who was Williams' former boyfriend and 2-year-old Matilda's father, died Jan. 22 in New York of an accidental overdose of prescription medications. He was 28.

People.com said Williams and Matilda were surrounded by security guards when they arrived Wednesday afternoon in Australia.

Ledger's father Kim, mother Sally and sister Kate all returned Tuesday to Australia from the United States. They had been in America to collect Heath's body and attend memorial services in Los Angeles.

People.com said that, after their arrival in Australia, Williams and Matilda headed to Heath's mother's house.

A private funeral for the "Brokeback Mountain" actor was expected to take place Saturday.


Police question Winehouse about drug video

LONDON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Police in London reportedly questioned troubled singer Amy Winehouse about a well-publicized video that appears to show her smoking a crack pipe.

Winehouse, 24, checked into rehab shortly after the footage hit the Internet last month.

She is also seen and heard stating on the video that she had just taken six valium tablets.

The BBC said the singer has been interviewed but not arrested.

The report also said police plan to continue their investigation.

A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed officers spoke to a 24-year-old woman regarding an allegation of unlawful possession of a controlled drug.


Lopez' dad: She's having twins

NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lopez' father David has confirmed the Bronx-born singer and actress is pregnant with twins.

The confirmation ends months of media speculation regarding how many babies Lopez and her crooner husband Marc Anthony are expecting.

"Yes, twins," People.com said David Lopez revealed in an interview on the Spanish-language show "Escandalo TV." "The thing is in my family, my sister also had twins, so it's a hereditary thing."

Lopez said he couldn't be happier.

"I'm very proud. Jennifer has yearned to be a mother for many years," he said.
