WGA grants Grammy producers interim pact

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The board of directors of the striking Writers Guild of America West has granted an interim agreement to the producers of the upcoming Grammy Awards show.

The pact will allow written material for the Feb. 10 show to be covered under a guild contract, the WGAW said in a statement posted on its Web site.

"Professional musicians face many of the same issues that we do concerning fair compensation for the use of their work in new media. In the interest of advancing our goal of achieving a fair contract, the WGAW Board felt that this decision should be made on behalf our brothers and sisters in the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists," said WGAW President Patric M. Verrone in the statement.

The WGA has been on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers since Nov. 5.

The Golden Globes gala was canceled after the WGA declined to grant its producers an interim agreement and threatened to picket the event, which actors in turn refused to cross.
