'Toy Story' to get 3-D makeover

BURBANK , Calif., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Walt Disney Studios said it plans to release new Disney Digital 3-D versions of "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" in theaters.

A 3-D version of Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story" is set to premiere Oct. 2, 2009, while "Toy Story 2" is scheduled to hit theaters Feb. 12, 2010, Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said Thursday.

The animated films are being converted to 3-D in anticipation of the June 18, 2010 release of Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story 3," which is being helmed by "Toy Story 2" co-director Lee Unkrich.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker John Lasseter will oversee the creative side of the 3-D conversions for "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2."
