NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- WNBC political reporter Jay DeDapper fought off three unarmed muggers, who broke his nose while beating him outside a pizzeria in New York's Greenwich Village.

The incident happened shortly after DeDapper reported on the Democratic presidential debate Monday night for "NewsChannel 4 at 11," the New York Daily News said.

DeDapper fought back and his attackers fled, police told the newspaper.

The TV reporter was treated for his injuries at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan and released.

Two teenagers were arrested and charged with attempted robbery and assault. Police said they were still looking for a third suspect.

DeDapper released a statement thanking all who helped him.

"I feel very fortunate to have sustained only bruises and cuts and not more serious injuries," he said. "I look forward to getting back to work on the presidential campaign for News Channel 4 -- although the camera may not be ready for me as quickly as I would like."
