NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- New York rapper Big Noyd may not be a big star, but he definitely feels like one.
"I'm a star because I made it so far from where I was supposed to be," explains Noyd (real name TaJuan Perry), who's just released his fifth album, "Illustrious." "Statistic-wise, I could be dead or in jail at this point in my life. So for me to be happy and making an album and have fans ... It's a good thing.
"I'm a star in the eyes of the people who really love and know me. I made it."
"Illustrious" was produced by Lil' Fame of M.O.P. The 14-track album features guest appearances by Joell Ortiz, Serani and Kira, the latter of whom sings on the first single, "Things Done Changed."
Big Noyd came to fame in 1993, when he rapped a guest verse on Mobb Deep's "Juvenile Hell" and continued to work with the group on subsequent release. He also had a role in the 2004 film "Murda Muzik -- The Movie."
