LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A so-called super band composed of members from several high-profile rock groups has hit the studio in Los Angeles.
Billboard reported Friday the hybrid group has tentatively been dubbed the Scrolls and will include musicians from bands such as Nickel Creek, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Other bands expected to be represented include Toad the Wet Sprocket, the Blue Merle Band and singer Elvis Costello's Imposters.
Toad the Wet Sprocket front man Glen Phillips labeled the group's musical efforts as "classic American music."
"It's all pretty much song format and a combination of Americana and rock and strangeness," Phillips said. "It's very real, if that makes sense."
Billboard said Sara and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek are among the band's elite, along with Imposters drummer Pete Thomas and bassist Davey Faragher, multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz, Blue Merle Band fiddler Luke Bula and keyboardist Benmont Tench from the Heartbreakers.
