McLean offers support to troubled Spears

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. pop singer A.J. McLean, who earned popularity with the Backstreet Boys, has offered his support to troubled pop star Britney Spears.

McLean, who reportedly is a recovering alcoholic, said this week that if Spears contacts him, he would attempt to help her deal with any of her highly publicized problems, People magazine said Friday.

"I believe in her 110 percent, but she needs to call (me)," McLean said Thursday. "If her publicist or somebody can get in touch with me, I just want to sit down with her and have it out."

Spears, 26, has been in the media spotlight in recent months due to her ongoing child custody dispute, along with other aspects of her life.

McLean told People that if he had a chance to talk with the "Toxic" star, he would draw upon his past to offer aid and assistance.

"She has given people hints of her troubles, but fear is a really big thing, and depression. ... I've been through it. I'm coming up on six years sober," the 30-year-old pop singer said. "I just want to sit her down and pick her brain."
