LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles coroner's office has concluded the caretaker of actor Ving Rhames did not die of injuries from a dog attack, but of a heart problem.
While the "Pulp Fiction" actor's four dogs were initially blamed with attacking the 40-year-old caretaker, coroner spokesman Ed Winter said Jacob Adams died of a heart ailment, People magazine reported Friday.
"He died because of a pre-existing heart problem," Winter said of Adams. "The dog bites found on him were determined to be non-fatal."
Police found the caretaker's body on the actor's property in Los Angeles Aug. 3 and at least one police officer alleged the man's body appeared to have been "mauled" by the dogs.
Such allegations led to the dogs being temporarily taken from Rhames, who has since issued a statement offering his sympathies to his employee's family.
"Jacob Adams was not just a devoted employee -- he was also a dear friend," the 48-year-old film star said. "I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family."
