Milch, HBO reunite for third TV drama

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- "Deadwood" and "John From Cincinnati" veteran David Milch co-wrote and will co-executive produce a new U.S. drama pilot for HBO, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Milch's latest is called "Last of the Ninth," a drama set in the New York Police Department in 1972, the trade paper said.

"It is about an older detective's mentoring of a young detective returned from Vietnam in a department fiscally crippled, under attack by revolutionaries and which has been brought by allegations of systemic corruption into public disrepute," Milch said.

Milch and his fellow "NYPD Blue" executive producer Bill Clark co-wrote "Ninth" before the Writers Guild of America strike began Nov. 5.

The pilot will be shot after the strike ends, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Clark will also serve as executive producer on the project.
