LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Britney Spears' Mercedes was impounded by police Monday night after the pop star left the car on a busy Los Angeles street because it had a flat tire.

Spears was reportedly driving through Brentwood with paparazzi following close behind when her car got a flat tire.

She drove for more than two miles on the flat tire, then stopped and abandoned the vehicle on Sunset Boulevard in rush-hour traffic, Usmagazine.com reported Tuesday.

Los Angeles Police Department representative Mike Lopez confirmed the 26-year-old singer's car was impounded because it was "blocking the roadway."

Witnesses at the scene told Usmagazine.com Spears and her assistant caught a lift from a paparazzo, who drove Spears back to her Beverly Hills home.

Spears was hospitalized for a psychological evaluation last week after police were called to her home because she refused to return her two young sons to their father at the end of a court-sanctioned, supervised visit.

She was released from the hospital Saturday.
