'300,' 'Norbit' on makeup short list

BEVERLY HILLS , Calif., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- "La Vie en Rose," "Norbit," "300" and "Sweeney Todd" are in the running for a major Hollywood prize for outstanding makeup design.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced seven films remain in competition for Achievement in Makeup at the 80th Academy Awards.

Making the shortlist for the Oscar are "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," "La Vie en Rose," "Norbit," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" and "300."

Members of the Academy's makeup branch will view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven films Jan. 19.

Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 80th Academy Awards nominations are slated to be announced Jan. 22, while awards are scheduled to be handed out Feb. 24.
