Spider-Man has new love interest

NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- An upcoming issue of "The Amazing Spider-Man" comic book shows the American super-hero's alter-ego Peter Parker kissing a woman who isn't Mary Jane Watson" title="Topic: Mary Jane Watson" class="tpstyle">Mary Jane Watson.

Mary Jane has been Peter/Spider-Man's love interest for decades.

"The first page is a real shocker and it's done on purpose. It's a bit of a slap of reality to longtime readers," Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada told the New York Post.

"Spider-Man" fans irate over Peter and Mary Jane's recent split have been voicing their outrage online and threatening boycotts, the Post said.
