JACKSON, Mich., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. television actor Austin Nichols has pleaded guilty by mail to driving while impaired and paid a $1,000 fine, Usmagazine.com reported Monday.

Nichols, who has appeared in the TV shows "Six Feet Under," "Deadwood" and "Pasadena," was pulled over by police at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 24 in Jackson, Mich.

Police said the actor, best-known for his brief stint on HBO's "John From Cincinnati," was spotted driving a Mercury Mountaineer the wrong way on Louis Glick Highway.

He had been staying with family members at Clark Lake at the time, Michigan's Mlive.com said.

Nichols was arrested, spent about five hours in the Jackson County Jail and was released the next morning, the Web site said.
