Cruise biography could prompt dispute

NEW YORK, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A biography of Tom Cruise due out this month may prompt a dispute between its author and the U.S. actor, a report said Sunday.

The New York Post reported that based on the book's stance toward Cruise's Scientology beliefs and romantic life, the actor may take offense at author Andrew Morton's work.

The newspaper's report comes more than a year after the "Top Gun" star's attorney, Bert Fields, said he had issued a warning to Morton regarding the biography.

"I wrote a letter to Mr. Morton back in November 2005 and said he obviously was entitled to write the book but 'make sure you check your facts.' ....If he tries to use my letter to create the impression that Mr. Cruise did have a gay affair, we will certainly sue ... because the story is false. Mr. Cruise is not gay," Fields was quoted as saying.

While the Post said no homosexual allegations are made in "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography," due for release Jan. 15, it did say claims are made regarding Cruise's spiritual beliefs and personal life.
