LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The Writers Guild of America is in discussions with United Artists regarding an interim pact for the U.S. studio's projects during the writers' strike.
If the film studio is able to reach a deal with the union, whose members are striking for better salaries and benefits, it would mark the first film company deal reached during the ongoing labor dispute, The Hollywood Reporter said Saturday.
While United Artists officials would not confirm the reports of a possible interim deal, a representative for the studio said an official statement would be released soon.
If an agreement is reached between the two sides, it would allow United Artists to begin work on new productions and conduct any necessary rewrites on its current projects.
The Reporter said the rumored deal would be similar to that reached by the production company of David Letterman, which allowed the TV talk show host's writers to return to the popular CBS series.
