LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Britney Spears' mother, Lynne, is asking people to pray for her daughter who is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at an L.A. hospital.

The troubled pop music star is being held under code 5150, which allows a medical facility to retain a patient for up to 72 hours against their will for evaluation and treatment, "Access Hollywood" reported Friday.

Contacted by the entertainment news program, Lynne Spears reportedly sounded upset and said, "Just say prayers."

Lynne Spears, who is also the mother of 16-year-old pregnant TV star Jamie Lynn Spears, is currently in Kentwood, Louisiana.

Britney and Jamie Lynn's father, Jamie, visited Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where Britney was taken Thursday night.

Spears was hospitalized after reportedly refusing to give her 1-year-old son back to her ex-husband at the end of a court-sanctioned visit.

Police called to the scene said Spears appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
