BOSTON, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- "Weepin" Willie Robinson, a well-known Boston blues singer, died at the age of 81 in a fire
started while he was smoking in bed, WCVB-TV reported.
"He always had a smile. The women were crazy about him. In fact, everybody was," Robinson's friend, Marc Widenshien, told the TV station.
Chris Stovall Brown performed numerous times with Robinson and helped produce a CD that included "You Can't Go Wrong," which Robinson wrote and sang.
"He kind of came into it from the back door. He was an emcee, a bouncer and B.B. King kind of egged him on and said, 'Why don't you get up on stage?'" Brown recalled.
Brown said it was Robinson's love for singing the blues that got him through the rough patches of his life.
"His life blood was getting the opportunity to entertain people," Brown told WCVB-TV.
