NEW YORK, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. comedian Amy Borkowsky has taken a vow of "cellibacy," surrendering her mobile phone for two months so she can connect with people face to face.

Borkowsky plans to document the experience in a Web project called "Cellibacy" on amyscellphone.com, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

"It's not about giving up sex," Borkowsky told the News. "I'm giving up something much harder than that."

Throughout the duration of her cell-phone fast, the comedian will still have her home telephone and e-mail. She also is allowing herself 20 quarters for pay phone use, the News said.

"I didn't want so many that I replace the cell phone with the pay phone, but I realize there are emergencies," Borkowsky reasoned. "There are medical emergencies. There are times when I have to call my sister because there's one more Crock Pot on sale at Macy's."

Borkowsky admitted, however, she hopes to meet new people because she won't have a cell phone to hide behind.

"I'm picturing myself sitting at Starbucks -- where I'd normally be on my cell phone -- and I'll have to talk to strangers. Who knows where that will lead?"
