Mis-Teeq singer wins British dance show

LONDON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- An electrifying tango vaulted favorite Alesha Dixon to victory in Britain's top-rated dance-contest show, "Strictly Come Dancing."

The former singer with British girl-band Mis-Teeq and partner Matthew Cutler outdanced rival Matt Di Angelo in a show that drew 12 million viewers Saturday night, The Sunday Times of London said.

Dixon, 29, hopes the win will kick-start her career, which has idled since Mis-Teeq's 2005 breakup when the band's record label folded, The Times said. She's already booked on Asian and Japanese singing tours is set to co-star in a new film with the "Bourne Supremacy" actor Brian Cox and the "ER" actress Alex Kingston, The Times said.
