Tennant: I haven't quit 'Doctor Who'

LONDON , Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Scottish actor David Tennant said he has not decided to leave the TV show "Doctor Who" at the end of next season.

Comic actress Catherine Tate, his new co-star on the popular sci-fi series, said in a radio interview during the weekend that she thought next season would be Tennant's last, the BBC reported Wednesday.

"Catherine Tate stitched me up good and proper," Tennant told the BBC at the premiere of the show's Titanic-themed Christmas special. "I started getting all these phone calls on Saturday lunchtime saying: 'Apparently you're leaving "Doctor Who." Catherine Tate's just announced it on Radio 2.' Thanks Catherine!"

Tennant said he talked to Tate Monday and asked, "Did you know you've caused a minor diplomatic incident?"

"She was completely oblivious that the phone had been ringing off the hook," he said.

In addition to starring in the upcoming 2008 season, Tennant is also confirmed to headline four "Doctor Who" specials the following year.

"I'm doing four more specials and beyond that no one's asked me to make any decisions and I'm quite happy to be enigmatic for as long as possible," he told the BBC.
