Spice Girls return to London

LONDON, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The Spice Girls returned to a sold-out crowd in London for their first concert in the United Kingdom in nearly a decade.

"I burst out crying. I couldn't control myself. I've been waiting for this all my life," fan Linzie Freeth of Devon said of Saturday's night two-hour show, with eight costume changes and a laser-lit stage in the O2 arena, the BBC reported.

Spice Girl Emma Bunton wore an ankle support throughout the concert for an injury sustained in Las Vegas last week during the group's final concert stop in the United States, The Sunday Times of London reported.

After tickets for Saturday's concert sold out in 38 seconds, the Spice Girls added 16 additional shows in London and two more concerts in Manchester next year.

In the coming months, the Spice Girls are to perform in sold-out concerts in Cape Town, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, Sydney and Beijing. Fans reportedly are paying as much as $2,000 a ticket to hear old hits such as "Spice up Your Life" and "Wannabe."
