LAS VEGAS, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The final performance of chanteuse Celine Dion at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas brought celebrities and fans to the event.

"A New Day" wrapped up with its 717th show of the nearly five year engagement Saturday night, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Sunday.

Grammy-winning composer and producer David Foster credits Dion with ushering entertainment back to the Las Vegas strip.

"The city had gotten so lackluster for a while. She brought a vibrancy," he told the Review-Journal. "I think you have to compare her impact to (casino developer) Steve Wynn's."

Celebrities such as illusionist Criss Angel attended the farewell performance as did one fan from California who claimed she sold her car to bid adieu to the Canadian diva.

The king himself, Elvis Presley, holds the record for the longest Las Vegas run with 837 shows from July 1969 to Dec. 12, 1976.
