Prince Lilian to miss Nobel festivities

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Sweden's 92-year-old Princess Lilian plans to sit out this year's Nobel awards ceremony and gala, The Local reported Friday.

This marks the first time since 1976 the widow of the king's uncle, Prince Bertil, will miss the Nobel festivities.

The Royal Court confirmed Friday King Carl Gustaf's aunt would not attend this year.

"The Princess is an elderly lady," spokesman Juan Navas noted.
