Winehouse seeks help for drug addiction

LONDON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse is reportedly getting help in her battle against drug addiction.

The 24-year-old performer last week canceled the remaining dates on her British tour because of health issues and heartache over the recent incarceration of her husband, Blake.

"After canceling the remaining dates of her U.K. tour, due to physical and emotional strain, Amy Winehouse has been under the care of physicians. Amy and her family ask that her privacy is respected during this difficult time," a representative for Winehouse told the Times of London.

All the media attention Winehouse has been garnering in recent months doesn't seem to be helping matters.

"The constant bombardment by certain agency photographers at her home has increased anxiety and caused disturbance," the spokesman said.

He also sought to clarify reports that Winehouse was seen in a car with packages of "white stuff," noting: "They were, in fact, the driver's hand towels. It is standard practice for drivers to use these towels to wipe down windows and doors after rain. These towels are in the driver's car at all times when he drives his clients. Any implication or suggestion otherwise would be unfair."
