Theater producers, stagehands resume talks

NEW YORK, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Stagehands and theater producers in New York resumed negotiations Sunday, seeking an end to the contract strike that has crippled Broadway since Nov. 10.

It was the first time both sides had met since talks broke down just before the start of the busy, and lucrative, holiday season, the New York Daily News reported.

The two sides disagree over the number of stagehands needed to open a show and keep it running. The stagehands' union wants a set number and ample compensation for any concessions, while the producers want a flexible number, the Daily News reported.

The strike has shut down more than two dozen plays and musicals, and cut business to theater district restaurants.
