'Idol' champ had say on her first album

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Jordin Sparks, the Arizona native who is "American Idol's" ranking champion, was happy to have input on her self-titled debut album.

"I feel very lucky because I got more input than I thought I would," the 17-year-old singer says. "When we first sat down with my management company, they asked me what I wanted to do, what I wanted to (sing) about, what image I wanted to portray -- and what image I really didn't want to portray.

"We're all very open-minded to compromise, and I think that's why the album turned out the way it did."

Sparks also co-wrote three songs that appear on "Jordin Sparks'" in various configurations. The first single from the album is "Tattoo," while Sparks duets with R&B singer Chris Brown on the track "No Air."

Sparks has a number of TV and live appearances lined up during the next month and hopes to tour in earnest in 2008.
