'Ox-Cart' on display in Portland, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The Portland Art Museum has put "The Ox-Cart," a major work by painter Vincent van Gogh, on display.

The painting -- a gift to the museum from Fred and Frances Sohn of Roseburg, Ore. -- is on public view for the first time in more than 50 years, The Salem (Ore.) Statesman-Journal reported Sunday.

It has been hanging in the Sohn family home, the newspaper said.

"The Ox-Cart" -- painted early in van Gogh's career, in 1884 -- is being shown in the museum's Geary Gallery in the Jubitz Center for Modern and Contemporary Art.

It is the only van Gogh on permanent view in a Northwest museum, and is estimated to be worth millions, the newspaper said.
