WGA strike won't halt Thanksgiving parade

NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Although the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is scripted, it won't be affected by the Writers Guild of America strike because the scribes are not WGA members.

The annual New York City parade will be hosted this year by "Today" show co-anchors Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira.

"(The strike) is something Meredith and I were just asking about yesterday because it is scripted," Lauer said in a conference call with journalists Thursday.

"I want to be very clear because of the precise timing of things coming into Herald Square and being caught on camera, there is a large scripted element to it."

An NBC spokesperson told the New York Daily News, "(The parade-show writers) are not involved in the union."
