Howard K. Stern: I'm basically broke

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Howard K. Stern, former boyfriend and lawyer of the late U.S. celebrity Anna Nicole Smith, says fighting numerous legal battles has left him in debt.

"I am in debt and basically broke," Stern told Us magazine. "There's this impression out there that I am somehow making money off of Anna's death. It couldn't be further from the truth."

Stern is suing author and former TV journalist Rita Cosby for $60 million for asserting in her Smith expose that Stern had a homosexual encounter with another of Smith's former boyfriends, Larry Birkhead.

Stern told Us "juggling" more than a dozen other lawsuits, has left him financially strapped and "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in debt to his parents.
